Survey: Students feeling drained
Summary from United States, from articles in English
Two pranks in Georgia that damaged school property have drawn complaints from parents about the end-of-the-year traditions although some acknowledge there's really no way to stop some zealous seniors. (article 1) Fewer higher school students than a decade ago say they are smoking, binge drinking, or using drugs, but some adults don't buy the results of the latest statewide survey. (article 4) Those who work with youth point to the recent deaths of teens who overdosed on drugs and other examples as evidence that the 2003 Massachusetts Youth Risk Behavior Survey doesn't reflect city students' lives. (article 4) The Plainville School Committee has decided to look into adopting school choice as a way to bring students and revenue into the system from neighboring communities. (article 2) The committee decided last week to establish a separate panel to investigate the potential merits and drawbacks of opening school district doors beginning in the 2005-2006 school year. (article 2) Nearly 140 districts in the state are participating in the program this school year, according to the state Department of Education website. (article 2) The proposals, which have been in the works for several years, have received an extra push by the results of a first-time survey of students and teachers about stress. (article 3)
