L.A. opposes 'improper' Angels name change
Summary from United States, from articles in English
The city of Los Angeles filed a brief Wednesday supporting Anaheim's lawsuit that claims the name Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim violates the team's stadium lease. (article 2) In my formative years, I went to Giant games and saw fans set fire to Dodger pennants. (article 1) If the Angels are going to antagonize the heart of their fan base and fight City Hall while attempting a hostile takeover of Los Angeles, there's only one way to make it all work: win. (article 5) The Anaheim Angels appear destined to join the Houston Colt.45s, New York Gothams and California Angels in baseball's collection of historical team names. (article 3) So, with the Angels favored to keep their new name win or lose, the Anaheim City Council must decide how much longer to pursue - and how much more to spend on - the lawsuit. (article 3) " In summary, the court feels that the city of Anaheim has failed to show a reasonable probability of prevailing on the merits (of its arguments at an upcoming trial) Orange County Superior Court Judge Peter Polos said. (article 4) The team said the name change is meant to increase fan base, advertisers and broadcast contracts, by emphasizing its connection to the nation's second-largest media market. (article 4)
