Toronto firm's mystery "process" may revolutionize flu vaccine production
Summary from multiple countries, from articles in English
A Canadian biotech company could be about to spark what the head of the WHO's influenza program says may be a mini-revolution in the manufacture of flu vaccine. (article 4) States have begun dropping restrictions on flu shots now that falling demand has led to surpluses, and some health officials want the federal government to take similar action. (article 1) The federal government last month eased its restrictions, imposed when production problems in October cut the flu vaccine supply in half, and allowed shots for adults age 50 and older. (article 1) Rod Watson had to cancel 1,000 flu-shot clinics in four states when the national vaccine shortage cut off his supply two months ago. (article 2) Lowe's is in the early stages of seeking construction permits from state and federal wetlands regulators, and the Department of Transportation. (article 5) The nation's shortage of flu vaccine has turned into a surplus, with nearly 5 million doses languishing in the federal government's hastily purchased stockpile, officials said yesterday. (article 3) In addition, federal and state officials have launched a campaign to persuade more people to get vaccinated, especially those at highest risk from the flu, before the peak of the season hits, probably in the next month or two. (article 3)
