CBC News: UN report blames Syria, Lebanon in Hariri's death
Summary from United States, from articles in English
A bomb has exploded in a mainly Christian area of the Lebanese capital, Beirut, killing two and injuring eight. (article source) A blast rocked Beirut on Saturday night, and Lebanese television broadcast stark images of severely damaged structures engulfed in flames. (article 7) Local media said up to eight people were injured after what is believed to be a car bomb exploded in the industrial district Saturday night. (article 8) Senior Lebanese officials yesterday rejected a UN report blaming Syria for tensions that led to the slaying of Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, saying the UN mission exceeded its authority in accusing the government of negligence. (article 4) Antoine Gebara said the explosion was caused by a bomb placed near the buildings in an industrial area. (article 2) A U.N. report into the assassination of Hariri concluded that Lebanon's investigation into the killing wasn't satisfactory and a new international investigation is needed. (article 5) The report, released Thursday, says there was a "distinct lack of commitment" by Lebanese authorities to investigate the crime, and the investigation was not carried out " in accordance with acceptable international standards. (article 5)
