Revisiting Don Imus, Amid The Current Controversy, Mike Wallace Looks Back At His 1996 Interview With Don Imus
Summary from United States, from articles in English
[UPDATED] (see summary with new information since yesterday)
The speediness and manner of his dismissal from CBS and MSNBC, after calling the players " nappy-headed hos may foreshadow a ripple effect on talk radio, industry observers say. (article 2) Imus - wearing blue jeans and his trademark cowboy hat and accompanied by his wife, Deidre - rolled up to the Princeton meeting in a black stretch limo. (article 16) Since Imus used the phrase "nappy-headed hos" on April 4, untold numbers of people have been pouring out their views on call-in talk shows, on Internet sites and blogs, in classrooms and on the street. (article 1) Black public figures make hateful, racist comments all the time, and not only is there no outrage equal to this, but people hardly notice. (article 11) NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. - C. Vivian Stringer said Friday that the team had accepted radio host Imus' apology . (article 3) Hard-working New York Times media columnist David Carr makes a similar observation, noting, as did the Journal, that watchdogs Media Matters for America played a big role in disseminating Imus' comments online . (article 7) Before either happens, Imus will sit down with officials from CBS Radio to work out the financial details surrounding his abrupt dismissal. (article 4)
