Bush Proposes Goals on Greenhouse Gas Emissions

The call, in an open letter, comes as leaders of G8 most industrialised nations are to meet in Germany. (article 1) " Climate change brings significant opportunities and risks for us investors say the 17 signatories, which hold 3 trillion euros in assets. (article 1) Scientific evidence shows that temperatures will increase by 1.8 and 4 degrees Celsius this century, as a result of increased carbon emissions. (article 1) Prime Minister Tony Blair has welcomed US President George Bush's call for a global warming summit this year but said more was needed. (article 3) Bush said major polluters needed to set targets and "great breakthroughs" in technology - led by the US - would allow this to happen. (article 3) Blair has been holding talks with South African President Thabo Mbeki, on the final day of his farewell tour of the continent. (article 3) The prime minister said the G8 meeting in Germany had to create "another big step forward" on climate change and the developing world. (article 3) The US was refusing to take part in UN talks scheduled for December on climate change, but Yvo de Boer said he expected that James Connaughton's assurance would mean the US would now attend that meeting. (article 2)
