New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer linked to prostitution ring
Summary from multiple countries, from articles in English
Paterson, the Democratic lieutenant governor who officially takes over the state's top office on Monday following Spitzer's resignation on revelations he patronized prostitutes, faces an April 1 deadline for the state's $124 billion budget. (article 3) A law enforcement official said Spitzer's high-powered defense team was believed to be negotiating a plea deal with prosecutors over his connection to a high-end prostitution ring, but attorneys were not commenting Thursday about the discussions. (article 16) " David is extremely intelligent, charming and witty, and enjoys the goodwill of people in both parties said state Sen. Martin Connor, the Democrat Paterson knocked off as Senate minority leader in 2002. (article 1) " A lot of people took pay cuts said one source, noting that many people followed Spitzer from the state Attorney General's Office to the Governor's Office for less money. (article 31) David Paterson will become an historic figure on Monday as the first black governor of New York State and the first legally blind governor in US history. (article 6) In fact, following his resignation, the U.S. attorney's office released a statement saying, " There is no agreement between this Office and Governor Eliot Spitzer, relating to his resignation or any other matter.
