Federer Beats Sampras in MSG Exhibition (Sports, 4 articles)
|
The women's tour year-end event moved out of the Garden in 1999; the men hadn't played seriously there since 1989, leaving Roger Federer's only Garden memory buying a Rangers shirt outside the arena 10 years ago. That hype has not become too tired to appeal to an all-but retired Pete Sampras or to Federer, recently rudely interrupted from his four years of utter inevitability. Federer is closing in on Sampras' record of 14 major tennis championships, a mark that truly exists only in black in white, written in a record book.
