DES MOINES, Iowa Democrat Barack Obama expanded his fragile lead in delegates over rival Hillary Rodham Clinton on Saturday, picking up nine delegates as Iowa activists took the next step in picking delegates to the national convention. CONTEST POLARIZED BY RACE In the Democratic race, Mississippi voters were strongly polarized by race, even more than in most other states that voted this year. In her interview, Pelosi also said that even if one candidate winds up with a larger share of the popular vote than the delegate leader, the candidate who has more delegates should prevail. Since then Obama's bid to become the first black president has garnered more votes, more delegates and more donations than the New York senator's equally historic bid to become the first female president. Obama also easily won the caucuses in Wyoming on Saturday after Hillary Clinton kept her campaign alive last Tuesday with wins in Ohio, Rhode Island, and Texas. Chief Clinton strategist and pollster Mark Penn said the April 22 primary will show that " Hillary is ready to win and that Sen. Obama really can't win the general election. The Clinton campaign was asked about earmarks on a press call Thursday afternoon before Obama released his requests.

Stocks tumbled Friday after news that Bear Stearns needs emergency funding due to a liquidity crisis intensified fears that the credit crunch is spreading. The fifth largest investment bank, Bear Stearns is a big factor in the credit default swaps market, a prime broker to many hedge funds, a primary dealer in the bond market and a counterparty to many leading Wall Street firms.
