Mothercare sales rise as Early Learning pays
Summary from multiple countries, from articles in English
Italy's UniCredit rose 10.3 per cent to €4.72, Portugal's Banco Espirito Santo jumped 11.8 per cent to €12.31 and in France Credit Agricole rose 7.6 per cent to €20.93 and BNP Paribas gained 6.3 per cent to €68.55. (article 2) HBOS, the UK's biggest mortgage lender, on Friday increased its minimum deposit to 5 per cent from 3 per cent, and said it would penalise those borrowers putting up less than a 25 per cent deposit on the property. (article 9) The department stores and supermarkets group, which is owned by its partners, reported overall sales down by 2.2 per cent at $117.8m. (article 13) The company, which bought Early Learning Centre a year ago for $85 million, said that fourth-quarter group sales rose 31.6 per cent and were up 3.9 per cent on a comparable basis. (article 15) The company, which is without a chief executive since Ian McLeod resigned two months ago, reported like-for-like sales up by 3.2 per cent over the seven weeks to March 14, which strips out the effect of the early Easter. (article 12) Including Easter sales, in the nine week period since its interim management statement in February, sales increased 4.6 per cent on a like-for-like basis and by 7.6 per cent overall. (article 12)
