Petraeus says he's unlikely to call for another troop buildup in Iraq - (World, 47 articles)
To avoid that, nearly everyone also agrees that some combat forces should remain in Iraq to fight foreign insurgents, to train the Iraqi army and police, and to protect remaining American troops, diplomats and contractors. The debate about troop withdrawals from Iraq will intensify next month, when Petraeus is due to report on how the "surge" of troops and new counterinsurgency tactics have affected conditions in Iraq's violent sectarian conflict. The man who forced the remaining US presidential candidates to make this sacrifice was General David Petraeus who was giving his long-awaited progress report on the war to two legislative committees. The White House has left little doubt that President George W Bush will back the top US military leader's call to suspend troop withdrawals from Iraq. As the top military commander of the Iraq War called Tuesday for a " troop pause Sen. Hillary Clinton said earlier that the troop surge in Iraq has not worked. Several officials who talked to CNN said they expect Petraeus to avoid any prediction about additional troop withdrawals beyond the 20,000 U.S. troops returning home as the troop "surge" ends in July.

April 9, 2008 American Airlines canceled about 500 flights yesterday to check the bundling of wires in some planes, the same issue that caused the airline to scrap more than 400 flights last month. American Airlines passengers, who dealt with a massive schedule disruption on Wednesday, can expect at least two more days of flight cancellations, as the airline scrambles to reinspect wiring on its MD-80 jets to comply with federal regulations.
