Clinton says Obama vulnerable during Pennsylvania debate (U.S., 52 articles)
Mrs. Clinton won a close race in New Jersey, where voters said that the economy was the most important issue in deciding how to cast their vote, according to exit polls. Democratic primary voters overwhelmingly said that a candidate's ability to bring about needed change was the most important factor in the way they voted, and those voters supported Mr. Obama in large numbers. The state has 4.5 million registered voters, and in a measure of the interest the race has drawn, officials said that 93,000 people signed up in the five weeks before the Jan. 7 deadline for participation in the primary.
Pope Praises U.S., but Warns of Secular Challenges (U.S., 20 articles)
Pope Benedict XVI has criticised US bishops for their handling of child sex scandals, saying their response to the crisis had sometimes been very poor. On his first official US visit, the Pope said he hoped the "time of trial" would help start a Church purification. WASHINGTON - Pope Benedict XVI visited the White House on Wednesday - his 81st birthday - and praised America as a nation where strong religious belief can coexist with secular society.
