Obama Plays Defense
Summary from multiple countries, from articles in English
In some 1,600 words of transcript, Charles Gibson and George Stephanopoulos tried to eviscerate Obama in Philadelphia on Wednesday, weeks after the candidate's address on race and his former minister. (article 1) WASHINGTON - The political fallout from the Philadelphia faceoff between Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton was all but eclipsed Thursday by a fierce debate about Charles Gibson and George Stephanopoulos. (article 5) A prominent TV critic, Tom Shales of The Washington Post, said Gibson and Stephanopoulos " turned in shoddy, despicable performances. (article 3) The Obama campaign, whose supporters were most angered by the debate, quickly sent out a fundraising appeal Thursday titled, " Gotcha. (article 3) Only after half of the 90-minute debate had been concluded did the moderators turn to questions concerning Iraq, Iran, the housing crisis and affirmative action. (article 2) ABC's debate was a success because it steered clear of issues like these, i.e. issues on which the candidates mostly agree. (article 8) NEW YORK - ABC News drew both record ratings and a heap of complaints about how Charles Gibson and George Stephanopoulos moderated the Democratic presidential debate, criticism that Stephanopoulos on Thursday called a sign of how much people care. (article 4)
