Volume growth slows at SABMiller
Summary from multiple countries, from articles in English
The yield on the 10-year Treasury rose as high as 3.85 per cent on Friday from less than 3.50 per cent last week as investors sold bonds on expectations that the Federal Reserve could soon end its rate-cutting cycle. (article 5) BNP Paribas rose 5.2 per cent to €70.06 during the week, while Deutsche Bank gained 5.3 per cent to €77.39 and UBS climbed 5.6 per cent to SFr36.10. (article 1) Shares in Google spiked more than 17 per cent in Friday morning trade, as investors cheered news that the internet pioneer's search-engine advertising business had stood up better than expected in the face of the US economic slowdown. (article 6) Adjustments the company had made to improve the quality of its own systems also helped revenues, which grew by 46 per cent in the first three months of the year, to $3.7bn. (article 6) Though a further deceleration from the 52 per cent growth of the preceding three months, which at the time had worried investors, the performance was at least stronger than the 42 per cent growth most analysts had expected. (article 6) SABMiller, the owner of Pilsner Urquell, Miller Genuine Draft and Peroni Nastro Azzurro, saw full-year sales revenues rise 16 per cent even as volume growth in the fourth quarter slowed. (article 9)
