NBA owners approve Sonics' move, but legal fight continues in Seattle
Summary from multiple countries, from articles in English
For months, this day loomed on the calendar, the result loomed as a certainty, and sadness loomed as the foregone emotion. (article 12) NBA owners on Friday approved the Seattle SuperSonics' move to Oklahoma City for the 2008-09 season, provided the team can settle its lawsuit with Seattle. (article 4) One of the most magical rookies to ever step foot in Seattle has already caught a plane to his hometown of Washington, D.C., to begin an offseason of schoolwork and working out. (article 15) The situation with the Sonics has stunk since the league approved the sale of the team to Clay Bennett, an Oklahoman whose idea from the beginning was to ensure Seattle's failure... and then move the team to Oklahoma City. (article 8) The Sonics start their second season today after a 126-121 victory at Golden State on Wednesday, which concluded their worst season in franchise history. (article 7) The NBA fined Sonics minority partner Aubrey McClendon $250,000 for comments he made last week in The (Oklahoma City) Journal Record about his hopes of moving the team to Oklahoma City. (article 2) Fans are in denial because of the unknown variables and possible outcomes in what has been a seven-year saga over arena improvements, public responsibility and corporate welfare. (article 13)
