Iraqi oil pipeline blown up again
Summary from multiple countries, from articles in English
The blast, near the town of Iskandiriya, caused a large fire and disrupted the flow of crude oil to refineries in the south of Iraq. (article 11) LAGOS, Nigeria Royal Dutch Shell will cut oil production by 169,000 barrel per day in Nigeria after militants attacked two pipelines Monday in the restive southern region. (article 3) The Nigerian attack, and a missile attack Monday on Japanese oil tanker off the east coast of Yemen, sent oil prices spiking to a record 117.40 a barrel. (article 3) Crude prices rose on initial reports that a U.S. ship had fired on two Iranian boats; the news raised concerns that a conflict between U.S. and Iranian forces could cut oil supplies from the region. (article 10) On Friday, oil prices were already up before the report on news of a pipeline attack in Nigeria and a looming refinery strike in Scotland. (article 10) A spate of attacks on Nigerian pipelines have raised concerns that an escalation of violence in the Niger Delta could put further upwards pressure on oil prices. (article 4) As the rising cost of crude oil trickles down to the gasoline pump, fuel prices are siphoning cash away from other consumer spending, making it harder to revive the flagging U.S. economy and putting pressure on the Bush administration. (article 7)
