Strike at oil refinery to start (U.S., 12 articles)
|
EDINBURGH, Scotland - British motorists are being urged not to hoard gasoline amid rumours that a looming strike at an oil refinery in Scotland could result in rationing. Talks between the two sides, plant owners Ineos and officials from the Unite union, have failed to reach an agreement over the on-going dispute. Meanwhile, oil and gas operators urged UK ministers to intervene in the dispute - which will result in the closure of the BP Forties pipeline which provides 30% of the UK's daily oil output from the north sea.

The Smithsonian says the contract requires commercial filmmakers who want to make extensive use of the institution's collections to reach an agreement with Showtime. A federal board ordered the Smithsonian Institution yesterday to reinstate a whistle-blower who was fired in retaliation for reporting that ranking officials of the National Air and Space Museum had misused the institution's world-class aeronautical restoration facility in Maryland for personal projects. Angered that the Smithsonian Institution sold a television network access to its treasures without consulting Congress, two influential members of the House have asked for a public airing of the business deal.
