Treasurys rise ahead of this week's Fed rate meeting
Summary from United States, from articles in English
Vincent Reinhart said Monday that the central bank's rescue of Bear Stearns Cos. was the " worst policy decision in a generation. (article 8) The "tail risk" of a deep and protracted recession in the US has not diminished much in recent weeks in spite of the rally in the stock market and improvement in some credit markets, top Federal Reserve officials believe. (article 5) This view will probably lead the Fed to cut interest rates by another quarter point (25 basis points) to 2 per cent tomorrow. (article 5) The statement is likely to position the US central bank to pause at the following meeting in June, while preserving the option of a further cut at that meeting if required. (article 5) Treasury prices rose in quiet trading Monday as investors waited for the Federal Reserve's decision on interest rates later this week. (article 1) The central bank is also expected to indicate that the cut will be the last for a while, as policymakers monitor the risk of inflation. (article 1) The stories this week about people hoarding rice at some big-box U.S. retailers had to send at least a slight chill up the spines of Federal Reserve policymakers. (article 2)
