Cease-fire reported with Iraqi militants in Sadr City (World, 35 articles)

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) The Iraqi government and Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr's movement have agreed to a cease-fire to end weeks of fighting in Baghdad's Sadr City district, spokesmen for both sides said Saturday. Responding to the latest report about al-Masri, Maj. Peggy Kageleiry said: " Neither coalition forces nor Iraqi security forces detained or killed Abu Ayyub al-Masri. The American military said 21 suspected gunmen were killed in Shiite militia strongholds late Tuesday, while Iraqi officials said 15 civilians were among the dead, including two women.

(CNN) After days of stonewalling, the Myanmar government is ready to accept aid from around the world for victims of Saturday's deadly cyclone, the country's U.N. ambassador said Friday Myanmar's military regime distributed international aid Saturday but plastered the boxes with the names of top generals in an apparent effort to turn the relief effort for last week's devastating cyclone into a propaganda exercise. WASHINGTON First lady Laura Bush on Monday said the United States stands ready to pump more aid into Myanmar to help its recovery from a cyclone so devastating the death toll could top 10,000.
