HP has eye on IBM as it discusses EDS acquisition
Summary from multiple countries, from articles in English
Hewlett-Packard Co. is negotiating to buy Electronic Data Systems Corp. in a deal that could help the world's largest personal computer maker win more consulting contracts with large companies and government agencies. (article 4) Palo Alto, Calif.-based HP and Plano, Tex.-based EDS, which provides information technology services, confirmed the talks Monday shortly after the Wall Street Journal reported a deal could be reached as early as Tuesday. (article 4) The deal, worth between $12- and $13 billion, according to the Wall Street Journal, would help shore up HP's services business, which generated $16.6 billion in fiscal year 2007. (article 5) Former IBM salesman H. Ross Perot left IBM to start EDS in 1962 and practically invented the business of running other companies' computer systems, now called information-technology or IT services. (article 7) For EDS, the deal represents a chance to cash in after years of cost cutting and reorganization failed to give the company's shares much of a lift. (article 8) Citing unnamed people familiar with the matter, The Wall Street Journal reported Monday that HP is willing to pay $12 billion to $13 billion und a price that translates to $24 to $26 per share. (article 3)
