A Subdued Clinton, and a Subdued Audience, on the Campaign Trail (U.S., 51 articles)
WASHINGTON Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton lent her presidential campaign $6.4 million over the past month, her campaign said Wednesday, underscoring the financial advantage held by her rival , Barack Obama. From CBS News' Ryan Corsaro: JUNCTION CITY, ORE. Hillary Clinton continues to say she is ahead of Barack Obama in the popular vote, despite questions over whether or not her campaign's numbers are misleading in making that claim. Obama has struggled in other states to win the votes of white, working class voters, and they could be the deciding vote next Tuesday. Noting that even Obama has called the controversy of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright " a legitimate issue Bayh said that in a presidential race, those voters will take more than the economy into their decision making before the primary. Hillary Rodham Clinton wins the West Virginia primary, and now people are saying that the Democratic primary contest that was over last week isn't over. White voters have voted for black candidates before Clinton exposes Obama's vulnerability: white voters Forum, Tuesday). The number of white Democratic voters who said that race influenced their choice on Tuesday was among the highest recorded in voter surveys in the Clinton-Obama nomination fight.

Boat carrying aid for Myanmar cyclone victims sinks :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: World (World, 47 articles)
WASHINGTON First lady Laura Bush on Monday said the United States stands ready to pump more aid into Myanmar to help its recovery from a cyclone so devastating the death toll could top 10,000. Five days after the storm, the junta continued to stall on visas for U.N. teams and other foreign aid workers anxious to deliver food, water and medicine to survivors amid fears the death toll could hit 100,000. The U.N. said very little international aid is getting to cyclone victims amid reports that the nation's military regime is hoarding some of the foreign aid for itself.

The California Supreme Court's decision allowing same-sex marriage probably throws the politically volatile issue into November, when a proposed state constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage could spill into the presidential campaign and contests for Congress and the state Legislature. P The California Supreme Court ordered an immediate halt Thursday to same-sex weddings in San Francisco and said it would decide within months whether the city had the authority to issue marriage licenses in defiance of state law. Under court rules, Thursday's decision does not take effect for 30 days, lawyers said, and opponents of gay marriage said they would ask the court to stay its judgment pending the expected vote by the public in November.
