Clinton presses on with campaign despite long odds (U.S., 40 articles)
THE battle for the Democratic presidential nomination could be won outright by Barack Obama this week, a senior adviser to the Illinois senator said this weekend. Hillary Clinton's blowout win in West Virginia sliced nearly 150,000 votes off Barack Obama's popular vote lead, gave her 20 of the 28 delegates at stake, and added a little lift to her fading hopes for the Democratic nomination. Obama was campaigning Saturday for primaries Tuesday in Oregon and Kentucky as his aides announced the rally on primary night in Iowa, which they described as " a critical general election state that Democrats must win in November. The three top presidential candidates joined in rare agreement today, pausing their campaigning to praise Senate colleague Ted Kennedy before rejoining the campaign against each other. From CBS News' Ryan Corsaro: JUNCTION CITY, ORE. Hillary Clinton continues to say she is ahead of Barack Obama in the popular vote, despite questions over whether or not her campaign's numbers are misleading in making that claim. Hillary Clinton's massive win in the West Virginia Democratic primary is overshadowed by John Edwards's endorsement, the next day, of her rival Barack Obama.

ABC News: As Cyclone Refugees Wait, Myanmar Refuses Aid (World, 26 articles)
New York-based Human Rights Watch said countries delivering aid to Myanmar should insist on monitoring the shipments to ensure that all aid reaches the neediest and to prevent the military from diverting any supplies. Myanmar's government issued a revised casualty toll last night, saying that 38,491 were known dead and 27,838 were missing. In a shocking update to a count that had consistently lagged international aid agency estimates, state television said 77,738 people were dead and 55,917 missing after the May 2 storm in the military-ruled country formerly known as Burma.

California Supreme Court Overturns Gay Marriage Ban (U.S., 25 articles)
The California Supreme Court decision legalizing same-sex marriage raises workplace issues that companies need to consider, even though last week's ruling will have little direct effect on employee benefits, legal experts say. The court's 4-3 decision echoes the Massachusetts Supreme Court's ruling legalizing gay marriage before the last presidential election in 2004, which led San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom to begin issuing marriage licenses to gay and lesbian couples. President Bush seized on the issue and pledged to support a federal constitutional ban on same-sex marriage, a move analysts say helped his re-election by energizing religious conservatives.

Bush says he's 'absolutely committed' to deal for Palestinian state (World, 15 articles)
Despite skepticism over his chances of securing a peace agreement by the end of his term in January, Bush expressed optimism that a deal could be done. US President George W Bush has repeated his commitment to a lasting Middle East peace deal after meeting Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas in Egypt. Unlike just last month, when Bush said there was " plenty of time to get a deal done his forecast was not quite that upbeat yesterday.
