Gum Disease Might Boost Cancer Risk
Summary from multiple countries, from articles in English
The initiative's purpose is to raise funds to accelerate cancer research, and all three major television networks have agreed to donate a simultaneous hour of commercial-free primetime programming for a special at 8 p.m. on Sept. 5. (article 6) More than 60% of adults with cancer can expect to live five years or more, according to an article in the European Journal of Cancer. (article 3) The rare simultaneous broadcast is reminiscent of a benefit for the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks that was shown on many networks weeks later. (article 8) ABC, CBS and NBC have agreed to set aside the same hour of prime-time television on the first Friday night in September for a live, joint telethon benefiting cancer research, representatives for the networks said in interviews. (article 7) All three have had immediate family members die of the disease, and another principal, Jeff Zucker, the president and chief executive of NBC and Ms. Couric's former boss, is a colon cancer survivor. (article 7) The phase III trial included 1,246 women with early, non-metastatic breast cancer who were randomly assigned to receive treatment with fluorouracil, epirubicin, and cyclophosphamide (FEC), or FEC followed by weekly paclitaxel (FEC-P). (article 5)
