Obama used party rules to foil Clinton (U.S., 35 articles)
|
By DAPHNE RETTER and MAGGIE HABERMAN May 30, 2008 Top Michigan Democrats yesterday rebelled against a plan to seat just half of the state's delegates, demanding that the national party seat them all - and give a majority to Hillary Rodham Clinton. Here's the state-by-state breakdown: Seating the full delegation with half votes would net Clinton 9 pledged delegates in Michigan and 19 pledged delegates in Florida for a net gain of 28 pledged delegates in total. We should learn definitively which candidate has won the most elected delegates - the delegates who get distributed between candidates, according to the results of primary and caucus votes. Delegates at the state convention will vote on how many Obama and Clinton delegates will represent Texas in the national convention in Denver. Democrats in 420 Maine towns and cities were deciding how the state's 24 delegates will be allotted at the party's national convention in August. Mrs. Clinton wants the full delegation from each state seated, aides said, and wants a share of delegates to match her percentage of the popular vote. The rules committee of the Democratic National Committee meets on Saturday to determine whether to seat the delegates from these states, which were penalized for holding early primaries.
