Lakers a win from 1st NBA finals berth since 2004
Summary from United States, from articles in English
Around this time last year, the idea that the Lakers would be playing a Game 5 at Staples Center for the right to move on to the 2008 NBA Finals seemed, well, kinda ridiculous. (article 8) Los Angeles (the team and the town) remembers what happened the last time L.A was up 3-1 in a playoff series, so suffice to say, nobody in purple and gold is taking anything for granted. (article 8) LOS ANGELES - Kobe Bryant wanted a team to call his own, a locker room to lead, a city singing his name and a championship that would bear his image. (article 5) Bryant scored 39 points Thursday, 17 in the fourth quarter, as the Lakers finished off the San Antonio Spurs with a 100-92 victory at Staples Center, where the mood was rhapsodic. (article 5) LOS ANGELES - The Lakers celebrated the Western Conference championship before their adoring fans at Staples Center, but not too hard. (article 6) Phil Jackson walks with a cane now, a byproduct of hip operations and other accumulated aches from a long and storied N.B.A. journey. (article 4) To think, just last May, after the Lakers failed to win a playoff series for the third straight year, Kobe Bryant was demanding a trade. (article 7)
