Cardinal Tells Priest Who Mocked Clinton to Take a Leave and ‘Reflect’
Summary from United States, from articles in English
The archbishop of Chicago, Cardinal Francis George, called on the priest, the Rev. Michael Pfleger, to "step back from his obligations" at St. Sabina and " take leave for a couple of weeks. (article 5) Father Pfleger has been a friend of Senator Barack Obama and served until several weeks ago in an unpaid role on the Obama campaign's Catholic advisory council. (article 5) WASHINGTON - Republican John McCain warned Monday that a nuclear-armed Iran would threaten Israel and cautioned that withdrawing troops from Iraq would weaken the entire Middle East as he courted Jewish voters wary of Democrat Barack Obama. (article 6) AUSTIN - A Texas Democratic superdelegate who endorsed Barack Obama disputed claims Monday by state party officials and an Obama aide who said she may not be a superdelegate after the state convention this weekend. (article 6) WASHINGTON In a painful episode of his quest for the White House, likely Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama said Saturday his family withdrew their membership at Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ. (article 2) The damage control came as his church and controversial sermons from the Trinity pulpit were increasingly becoming a target that threatened Obama's presidential bid. (article 2) Republicans have already started hitting Obama over Wright, and by Thursday had seized on Pfleger's comments. (article 3)
