High Schools, Anne Arundel County, Martin O'Malley -
Summary from United States, from articles in English
Statewide, 81 percent of students in elementary grades passed the reading and math tests, and at dozens of elementary schools more than 95 percent of students are passing the tests. (article 1) The increase from year to year is getting smaller, officials said, because so many students already are scoring well. (article 1) That still leaves about 10,000 students in the class who haven't passed one or more of the tests, according to Maryland Deputy State Superintendent Ronald Peiffer. (article 2) Officials maintain their belief that there should be no drop in the graduation rate as a result of the assessments, a position that has been questioned by some education advocates. (article 2) P Thanks to the Spark apprenticeship program, junior high school students in Redwood City have had the opportunity to fly planes alongside their pilot mentors, assist in surgeries in veterinary clinics and help design video games. (article 5) School district officials say 20 of the 35 students have not met the standards to walk across the stage under a school board promotion policy adopted in 2006. (article 3) Kendrick was one of about 500 students from Signal Hill, Sinclair and West Gate elementary schools who descended on Osbourn Park last week for the seventh annual celebration of the school's biotechnology program. (article 4)
