al-Qaeda behind Danish embassy bombing: web posting
Summary from multiple countries, from articles in English
A web posting late Wednesday purportedly by al-Qaeda claimed responsibility for the suicide attack against Denmark's embassy in Pakistan that left six people dead. (article 1) But Danish authorities said the terror network or one of its affiliates was likely behind the explosion, which came just weeks after the terrorist group threatened Denmark over caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad reprinted earlier this year in newspapers in that country. (article 7) The bombing was the first to occur in Islamabad in a little more than two months, and the second this year to target foreigners living and working in the Pakistani capital. (article 6) Pakistan has been racked by political unrest and violence since early last year, but attacks have intensified since the country's former prime minister, Benazir Bhutto, was assassinated Dec. 27. (article 6) At least six people have been killed and 30 injured in a car bomb attack near the Danish embassy in the Pakistani capital Islamabad. (article 5) Other militant factions - accused of being involved in similar attacks in the past - have also recently engaged in talks with the government and the number of bombings in the country has reduced since the induction of a new government in March. (article 5)
