GOP video uses Rezko verdict to attack Obama :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Barack Obama
Summary from United States, from articles in English
CHICAGO - A day after Barack Obama sealed the Democratic nomination for president, a corruption scandal involving a fundraiser who helped bankroll his past campaigns resurfaced to slightly dampen the festivities. (article 5) Chicago businessman Antoin "Tony" Rezko was convicted Wednesday of fraud, money laundering and aiding and abetting bribery in a plot to squeeze illegal payoffs out of firms hoping to do business with the state. (article 5) Within hours of Tony Rezko's conviction Wednesday, Republican Party leaders launched a blistering attack against Sen. Barack Obama whose political career began with Rezko's financial support. (article 2) SPRINGFIELD - If elected president, Democrat Barack Obama will not pardon Tony Rezko for his corruption convictions or reduce his prison time, the senator's campaign said Thursday. (article 1) That decision comes after a federal jury convicted Rezko on 16 of 24 corruption counts and after Republicans quickly seized on the verdict with an immediate round of internet-based advertising questioning Obama's past personal and professional ties to Rezko. (article 1) CHICAGO Democratic insider Antoin "Tony" Rezko was convicted of federal corruption charges Wednesday for trading on his clout as a top advisor and fundraiser to Illinois Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich. (article 6)
