Tiger Woods takes early U.S. Open peek at Torrey Pines
Summary from United States, from articles in English
Tiger Woods played his first round of golf Wednesday since knee surgery two days after the Masters, getting a thumbs-up from his swing coach after 17-plus holes at Torrey Pines riding in a cart. (article 2) The San Diego Union-Tribune, which first reported on its Web site that Woods had played, said the round lasted 3 hours, 15 minutes amid tight security. (article 2) Woods had said Monday in a conference call for the PGA Championship that while he had been able to practice, he had not played a full round of golf since the Masters. (article 2) According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, the American world number one spent three hours and 15 minutes on the South Course at Torrey Pines where security was tight. (article 1) Spectators and media were barred from the course and Woods, who was accompanied by swing coach Hank Haney, ended his practice round after laying up in two at the par-five 18th. (article 1) Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson will play together the first two rounds of the U.S. Open, a decision by the USGA to create equal footing for the highest-ranked players, but one that could turn Torrey Pines into one big traffic jam.
