Crew fixes space station toilet, opens science lab
Summary from multiple countries, from articles in English
CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - To everybody's relief, astronauts fixed the toilet at the International Space Station yesterday and opened up a grand new science lab. (article 1) The toilet problem had fast become the most pressing issue of the mission, so much so that a spare pump was rushed from Moscow to Cape Canaveral last week for a last-minute ride aboard space shuttle Discovery. (article 1) CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - Spacewalking astronauts worked on the outside of Japan's shiny new science lab Thursday, installing cameras and removing covers. (article 6) Dressed head to toe in white, Michael Fossum and Ronald Garan Jr. looked like puffy dolls against the 37-foot-long, 14-foot-wide lab, which is now the biggest room at the international space station. (article 6) Kononenko transformed Wednesday morning from an astronaut into a plumber to successfully repair the only toilet at the International Space Station. (article 3) CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. A team of astronauts working inside and out anchored a giant billion-dollar Japanese lab to the international space station on Tuesday, making it the biggest room there. (article 7) Spacewalkers Michael Fossum and Ronald Garan Jr. took care of all the preliminaries, removing covers and disconnecting cables on the bus-size lab, named Kibo, Japanese for hope. (article 7)
