Obama takes offensive against smear campaign :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Barack Obama
Summary from United States, from articles in English
The rumor that Michelle Obama railed against "whitey" in a diatribe at Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ has circulated on conservative Republican blogs for weeks and was repeated by radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh. (article 11) The rumor included claims of a videotape of the speech that would be used to bring down Obama's candidacy this fall. (article 11) In another sign of the campaign moving into the general election race, the Democratic National Committee's spokeswoman said Thursday its political and field operations are relocating to Chicago, where Obama's campaign is based. (article 11) A new Web site created by the Obama team, called "Fight the Smears is designed to systematically dismantle Internet rumors by letting users see both" the smear " and, the campaign's response. (article 12) Democratic White House hopeful Barack Obama held a round-table talk today on the South Side with three consumers gouged by credit card companies. (article 9) Enthusiasm for a candidate and familiarity with the process are critical components in the caucuses, in which voting takes place in public after speeches on behalf of each of the candidates, and complex rules dictate the allocation of delegates. (article 3) Solid support for both Clinton and Edwards rose over the past month, while Obama's remained stable. (article 3)
