Labour crows as David Davis bombshell stuns Tories
Summary from multiple countries, from articles in English
The Lib Dems are not taking part in the by-election in Haltemprice and Howden, but Labour has yet to decide. (article 12) "What this is really about is the conflicts and divisions within the Conservative Party on the important issues of terrorism and national security" (article 12) Labour is deciding whether to field a candidate in the by-election prompted by the resignation of shadow home secretary David Davis as an MP. (article 11) Who is David Davis? One of the most experienced and long-serving Conservative frontbench politicians in the Commons, who has twice challenged unsuccessfully for the party leadership. (article 1) David Davis's behaviour is a pure piece of political theatre, even more bizarre than John Major resigning as leader of the Tory Party in order to stand again against his own colleagues. (article 6) The shadow home secretary's decision to resign as an MP - with the Tories looking a good bet to win the next election - has shocked most observers. (article 4) Shadow home secretary David Davis has resigned as an MP, promising to fight to regain his seat on a platform of defending "British liberties". (article 13) The rest of the patch takes in pretty villages and towns including Howden, to the north of the Humber, through to the county boundary of North Yorkshire. (article 10)
