At least 4 killed as tornado strikes boy scout camp in Iowa
Summary from multiple countries, from articles in English
(Nati Harnik/Associated Press) A tornado struck a boy scout camp in western Iowa on Wednesday, killing at least four people and injuring 40, according to officials and witnesses. (article 13) (CNN) Four Boy Scouts who died Wednesday when a tornado swept through a wilderness camp were remembered for the very qualities that had brought them to the camp in the first place (article 5) Julie Tack said the camp near Little Sioux was covered with debris and downed trees after the tornado hit about 7 p.m. There were 93 campers and 25 staff members at the camp, Tack said. (article 11) Iowa rescue workers cut through downed branches and dug through debris amid rain and lightning Wednesday night to reach the camp where the 93 boys, ages 13 to 18, had huddled for safety through the twister. (article 1) Two other people were killed by twisters that swept through Kansas, the latest casualties in a particularly violent tornado season this year. (article 2) With more tornadoes than ever menacing the Heartland this year, twister fatalities have already set a record, and as Wednesday's carnage showed, victims usually get mere minutes to reach safety. (article 8)
