Politics may hinder InBev's bid to buy Anheuser-Busch
Summary from multiple countries, from articles in English
ST. LOUIS - Belgian brewer InBev is offering a big payday to shareholders of Anheuser-Busch Cos. Inc., but its bid to create the world's largest beer company is already facing a major obstacle - US election-year politics. (article 6) The so-called King of Beers may be moving its throne overseas as the Anheuser-Busch Corp., which produces Budweiser beer, considers a takeover offer from Belgium-Brazilian beer company InBev. (article 1) Anheuser-Busch reported late Wednesday that InBev SA gave it an unsolicited bid to buy the company for roughly $46 billion - about 11 per cent more than the market price just before the announcement. (article 5) It's unclear whether senior Anheuser-Busch executives think the deal makes sense, but shareholders may be drawn to the offer - $65 a share, a steep premium over the company's closing price of $58.35 on Wednesday. (article 5) " Anheuser-Busch said that its board of directors will evaluate the proposal carefully and in the context of all relevant factors, including Anheuser-Busch's long-term strategic plan the company said in a statement. (article 5) On Wednesday, InBev, makers of Stella Artois and Becks, announced a $46 billion, $65-a-share bid for Anheuser-Busch, America's largest and perhaps most iconic brewery. (article 8)
