Obama on oil drilling: 'Not a long-term solution' -The Green Blog
Summary from United States, from articles in English
With gasoline topping $4 a gallon, President Bush urged Congress on Wednesday to lift its long-standing ban on offshore oil and gas drilling, saying the United States needs to increase its energy production. (article 8) With the presidential election just months away, Bush made a pointed attack on Democrats, accusing them of obstructing his energy proposals and blaming them for high gasoline costs. (article 8) Despite a plea to Congress by Bush today, the Illinois Democrat rejected lifting the drilling moratorium that has been backed by presidents of both parties for nearly two decades. (article 7) WASHINGTON - Seeking to energize party loyalists, President Bush on Wednesday gave his most extended public support to Sen. John McCain (article 3) In a full-throated fundraising appearance for Republicans, Bush never mentioned the name of McCain's opponent in the presidential race, Democratic Sen. Barack Obama. (article 3) Warning that America has become dangerously dependent on foreign oil, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee reversed his own long-held position in favor of the ban. (article 6) WASHINGTON - The Democrats like to say that electing Senator John McCain would usher in the third term of George W. Bush, and they do not mean it as a compliment. (article 1)
