Obama's campaign tackles rumors - (U.S., 29 articles)
In another sign of the campaign moving into the general election race, the Democratic National Committee's spokeswoman said yesterday that its political and field operations are relocating to Chicago, where the presumptive nominee's campaign is based. Much of the criticism came from her comment that her husband's campaign has made her proud of her country " for the first time a remark that inspired a Tennessee Republican Party Web video questioning her patriotism. (CNN) Sen. Barack Obama said evangelical leader James Dobson was "making stuff up when he accused the Illinois senator of distorting the Bible and taking a" fruitcake interpretation " of the U.S. Constitution. Though the election is more than four months away, the campaigns of Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain are shaping their strategies for dealing with such appeals. The Obama campaign vows to fight back fiercely and fast, not repeating John Kerry's mistake of waiting to respond to the 2004 "Swift Boat" ads that Democrats saw as a smear of his military record. The Obama campaign did not disclose the agenda for Obama's National Finance Committee or who spoke to the group during their day in Chicago.

Fed is expected to stand pat on interest rates - (Finance, 25 articles)
WASHINGTON With inflation moving higher on its worry list, the Federal Reserve held interest rates steady Wednesday, ending nearly a year of cuts to bolster the economy, and hinted that the next direction for rates could be up. If there were a Central Bank of the World its monetary policy committee would glance at today's inflation rates and expectations of future inflation and then raise interest rates. That would affect sentiment in the market said Phillip Securities managing director Loh Hoon Sun. The Fed left open the timing of a possible rise in interest rates to curb the continued rise in prices that may further weaken the U.S. economy.
