Madigan memo outlines impeachment for Gov :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Gov. Blagojevich and Operation Board Games
Summary from United States, from articles in English
Illinois would be a national "laughingstock" if state leaders keep feuding over how to finance a statewide construction program and blow an October deadline to get $9 billion in federal matching funds, Rep. Mark Kirk said Monday. (article 8) According to a release from Blagojevich's office, the governor will call the four legislative leaders together this week to resume work so the state can have a budget that is balanced by July 1. (article 4) Gov. Blagojevich stopped short Tuesday of instigating a legislative war, saying he's against an outright veto of the unbalanced budget state lawmakers sent him. (article 1) The bill bans companies with $50,000 or more in state business from giving money to the political fund of the officeholder who awarded the contract. (article 10) SPRINGFIELD Gov. Rod Blagojevich laid out an ultimatum for his foes in the Illinois House Tuesday, threatening a staggering $1.5 billion in painful budget cuts unless they step in soon with money to stave off the slashing. (article 2) The cuts are aimed at repairing a budget the governor says has a $2 billion hole and cover a mix of new and existing spending. (article 2) A Madigan aide said the document is not necessarily reflective of the speaker's personal views but was prepared by House Democratic campaign staff. (article 7)
