Barack Obama gets out chequebook for Hillary Clinton campaign (U.S., 50 articles)
|
The rally will be the first time the former rivals have shared a stage in public since Obama clinched the Democratic nomination earlier this month and began trying to mend the rifts caused by their epic 16-month campaign struggle. Democratic presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama takes the stage with Senator Hillary Clinton at a campaign event in Unity, N.H., on Friday. Democrats preparing to vote in Tuesday's California primary can mark their ballots with confidence, knowing that eithercandidate would make a strong nominee and, if elected, a groundbreaking leader and capable president. Mr Obama and Mrs Clinton plan to campaign together today in Unity, New Hampshire, in what will be their first public appearance together since the former First Lady bowed out of the race three weeks ago. Some of Mrs. Clinton's aides said Mr. Obama's campaign had made only a perfunctory effort to hire Clinton staff members; the Clinton campaign payroll is ending for most employees in less than a week. Obama on Tuesday asked his finance team to help Clinton pay back at least $10 million from her failed presidential campaign, setting the stage for joint appearances by the two former rivals later in the week.
