The first calls between Cubs general manager Jim Hendry and Oakland counterpart Billy Beane about the availability of right-hander Rich Harden came in mid-June. CHICAGO - The Chicago Cubs acquired pitcher Rich Harden from the Oakland Athletics in a six-player trade on Tuesday, a day after the rival Milwaukee Brewers landed CC Sabathia.     Kuroda lifts Dodgers, Mets bullpen hangs on in win (Sports, 8 articles)
    Hiroki Kuroda took a perfect game into the eighth inning and settled for a one-hitter, leading the Dodgers to a 3-0 victory over the Atlanta Braves last night in Los Angeles. Kuroda (5-6) retired the first 21 batters before Mark Teixeira lined the righthander's 70th pitch into the right-field corner for a double leading off the eighth. All of the ups and downs of the Mets' tumultuous season took a backseat last night during their third consecutive win in Philadelphia, a 10-9 decision that ended up a lot closer than necessary.

The Golden State Warriors will sign high-scoring free agent Corey Maggette to a five-year contract worth around $50 million, a person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press on Tuesday night.

    Chelsea said Tuesday that it had rejected Inter and will not enter into any negotiations regarding the 30-year-old Lampard, who has one year left on his contract. Scolari, speaking Tuesday at his first news conference since being named Chelsea manager, said he met Lampard for the first time Monday to discuss his future plans. Arsenal winger Alex Hleb has played down suggestions of a rift with boss Arsene Wenger but still looks set to leave the club.
