Emerging Nations Join G-8 on Climate

(article 8) His comments to reporters in the resort town of Toyako came as several developing countries reportedly balked at climate change targets proposed by the G8 countries the previous day. (article 7) The major industrial countries represented by the G8 set a goal Tuesday to halve emissions that contribute to global warming by 2050, though no international baseline year was set and the plan lacked midterm goals. (article 7) RUSUTSU, Japan - Leading industrial nations on Tuesday endorsed halving world emissions of greenhouse gases by 2050, Japan's prime minister said, edging forward in the battle against global warming but stopping short of tough, nearer-term targets. (article 3)
