Spokane Valley fire destroys at least 13 homes, burns 1,200 acres

Firefighters in California, America, are keeping up their battle to bring two huge blazes that are threatening two towns under control. (article 1) The former film star said: "California is in the midst of battling unprecedented wildfires that have stretched our state's firefighting resources to their limit and placed thousands of Californians in immediate danger" (article 1) Fires in northern and central California caused by drought conditions, high temperatures and a series of lightning storms have destroyed 60 homes and other buildings while threatening thousands more, according to the state department of forestry and fire protection. (article 2) In the Big Sur region of the Los Padres National Forest, about 200 people along a roughly 15-mile stretch of Highway 1 were ordered to leave their homes and businesses. (article 2) Evacuation orders also remained in place for occupants of at least 75 homes who were forced to leave the region last week, as an 81 square mile blaze burning through uninhabited forest land moved closer.
