French first lady sings to 'charming prince' husband on new album (Entertainment, 6 articles)
Carla Bruni, an Italian-born model who married Sarkozy in February after a three-month whirlwind romance, released her album Comme si de Rien N'etait (As If Nothing Happened) in France and much of Europe on Friday morning. So we find ourselves some way into the French first lady's third album where a sparse, folky meditation called The Antelope reveals itself. "The future is unclear explains Bruni," And the past is troublesome/Me I'm at one with the present/Like the panther and the elephant. It was his willowy wife , Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, who bagged the prime-time interview on France's main television channel on Friday night after launching her latest album of songs. Little, outside of French-speaking countries, is known of the 40-year-old's singing career despite 2003 debut album Quelqu'un dit (Someone Told Me) - a minimalist folky affair - selling two million copies. Last year's No Promises, which set the words of English poets to original music, sold a disappointing 380,000 copies. Can French first lady score with debut pop album? PARIS - She charmed the queen of England, captivated Israel, impressed President Bush and won over the hardest sell of all - the French.
