Spanish rider Luis-Leon Sanchez wins seventh stage of Tour de France (Sports, 10 articles)
AURILLAC, France - Luis-Leon Sanchez of Spain won the seventh stage of the Tour de France Friday, moving ahead with 21/2 miles to go and holding on for the victory. Kim Kirchen of Luxembourg retained the yellow jersey as the overall leader after Friday's windy stage of 99 miles from Brioude to Aurillac in the Auvergne. SUPER-BESSE, France - Kim Kirchen pulled on the yellow jersey at the Tour de France on Thursday, the first Luxembourg rider in 50 years to lead cycling's showcase race. The British sprinter had been frustrated Monday when his chance to win a stage of this year's Tour de France was thwarted by a breakaway. The Team Columbia rider took the fifth stage in a sprint after a three-rider breakaway that led almost the entire way in the Tour's longest leg was caught within sight of the finish line. CHOLET, France - Stefan Schumacher of Germany took the yellow jersey at the Tour de France, and now says everything else is a bonus. The second goal will be reached Wednesday, when Schumacher will wear the yellow jersey for the longest stage of the 95th Tour de France, a 144.2-mile mostly flat ride from Cholet to Chteauroux.
