Sudan's ruling party warns of more violence in Darfur -
Summary from multiple countries, from articles in English
A prosecutor at the International Criminal Court is expected to seek an arrest warrant today charging President Omar al-Bashir with orchestrating violence in Darfur that has left hundreds of thousands of people dead since 2003. (article 5) The court, which began work in 2002, has no enforcement arm and relies on governments to act as its police force. (article 2) China's U.N. Ambassador Wang Guangya, whose nation is an ally of Sudan, said that bringing charges against al-Bashir could jeopardize peace talks and put peacekeepers and humanitarian aid workers in Darfur at greater risk. (article 6) The streets of Khartoum were calm yesterday a day after Sudan became the first country to have its president indicted for genocide by a permanent international court. (article 1) BEIJING - China urged the International Criminal Court (ICC) to rethink its arrest warrant for Sudan's president Tuesday in a sign of China's skittishness over its already-difficult relationship with the African country. (article 7) China says a BBC documentary accusing Beijing of fuelling the war in Darfur by supplying military equipment and training to Sudan is "strongly biased". (article 9) On Monday, the BBC's Panorama programme revealed evidence that China had sent military trucks to Sudan, which were used in attacks on civilians in Darfur. (article 9)
