Nintendo and Sony Unveil Games
Summary from multiple countries, from articles in English
Even with the breakneck pace of technological advancement, the concept of using thoughts to control games and devices seems more at home in science fiction than in the living room of the near future. (article 4) Everyone with an interest in video games - consumers, industry insiders and stock markets alike - has learnt not to ignore (or mock) Nintendo's crazy ideas. (article 4) Under Iwata's guidance, the company has torn up the rulebook of interactive entertainment, creating new ways for people to interface with games and in doing so, it has become one of the world's wealthiest companies. (article 4) Satoru Iwata, the president and chief executive of Nintendo - which is expected to sell about 25million units of its successful Wii video games console this financial year - has no doubts about the next gaming boom. (article 3) Sony, which is gaining some traction for its PlayStation 3 console after initial stumbles, directed most of its new offerings at more traditional gamers, as well as movie buffs interested in its high-definition Blu-ray disc format. (article 5) While far from disappointing, the combined showings from the companies left some of the cognoscenti at the convention, an annual video game trade show, a bit underwhelmed. (article 5)
