The launch of the first iPhone model a year ago boosted interest in the technology tremendously, and the updated model available Friday likely will stoke enthusiasm further. Jon Mulder said touch screens have become a "hygiene factor" und a must-have for phones that want to compete in the high end of the U.S. market. Carrier Softbank Corp., which beat market leader NTT DoCoMo for the right to sell the iPhone in Japan, is planning a countdown ceremony at its flagship downtown store. The iPhone goes on sale there five hours earlier than other nationwide outlets, helping to kick off a global rollout in 22 nations. QUEBEC - Music icon Paul McCartney exploded onto an old battleground Sunday, churning out a song list laden with Beatles tunes to a pumped up crowd on the historic Plains of Abraham. Tens of thousands of music fans streamed onto the Plains of Abraham and spilled into the surrounding streets of Quebec City on Sunday in hopes of securing a good vantage point to watch the music icon. MONTREAL Paul McCartney told Quebec nationalists on Thursday "to smoke the pipes of peace" over their opposition to his free concert celebrating the city's 400th anniversary.

Batman film The Dark Knight has set a box office record for best opening weekend ever at the US box office, distributor Warner Bros has said. Hollywood set an overall revenue record of $253 million for a three-day weekend, beating the $218.4 million haul over the weekend of July 7, 2006, according to box-office tracker Media By Numbers. That bested the 2005 performance of " Star Wars Episode III: The Revenge of the Sith which took in $16.9 million during its midnight debut in 2,915 venues.

Or the Red King, who I certainly would guess is the unseen author in the case of "Through the Looking Glass" and the myriad writers/producers who create " Lost. I 'm interested to hear where Jen and everyone else comes down on Carroll's influence on "Lost's" plotline.
